Construction Manager
About: SJ Construction Consulting, LLC (SJCC) is a construction consulting firm based out of Honolulu with operations on the West Coast, and clients across the nation. We serve the public and private sectors in pre-construction, construction management, claims support, and expert witness services.
Role: Construction manager acting on behalf of the owner as his/her primary project representative.
Responsibilities: Overall responsibility for ensuring contractor is constructing in compliance with the construction documents (i.e. plans and specifications). Monitor construction progress and take necessary steps to ensure timely project completion within the owner’s budget.
Hard skills: Software experience with construction estimating (HCSS HeavyBid, B2W, InEight, Hard Dollar), scheduling (MS Project, Primavera), and project management (Procore, Runjob, Prolog, Expedition) is preferred. Knowledge of contract law and experience with dispute resolution is critical. Ability to write English professionally with brevity and accuracy while maintaining proper grammar.
Soft skills: Possess a positive attitude and be communicative. Ability to speak publicly.
Education/Certification: Bachelors degree in construction management or engineering, or minimum of twenty years in the heavy/civil construction industry. Certified Construction Manager (CCM) and/or professional engineering license preferred.

Construction Claims Consultant
We need heavy/civil construction professionals to join the SJCC team to assist in:
– Claim preparation
– Estimating
Must be experienced in one or both of the two:
– HCSS HeavyBid
– Primavera P6
Immediate positions available for an experienced construction claims professional with a minimum of 5 years of construction industry experience in the preparation and evaluation of construction claims. A bachelor degree in engineering or architecture is required.
Candidates must possess strong forensic capabilities and be skilled in accepted methods of quantifying both delays and damages on large multidisciplinary projects.
Proficiency in CPM scheduling software, Word, and Excel is required. Expert testimony experience is a plus. Professional certifications/licenses (PE, CCE, CCM, etc.) preferred.

Construction Inspector

Role: Construction inspector acting as front-line, on-site quality assurance technician.
Responsibilities: Overall responsibility for ensuring and documenting contractor’s compliance with the construction documents (i.e. plans and specifications). Production of daily documentation (photos and narrative) to record daily activities.
Hard skills: Software experience with document (.pdf) manipulation (Revu Bluebeam), collaborative document sharing (Google Docs, Google Sheets), and offline document tools (MS Word, MS Excel). Ability to read drawings and specifications is mandatory. Working knowledge of applicable standards within ASTM and ACI is preferred. Ability to write English professionally with brevity and accuracy while maintaining proper grammar.
